The aim of this study was to investigate the lexical features including lexical richness, the total number of words, and the percentage of kinds of content words in the speech of adults with mental retardation and so to determine the percentage and to compare them with the speech of normal people. In this analytical descriptive study, investigated population was 10 mentally retarded adult with IQ 40-52 who in top educable group that their mental ages were determined through Goodenough test and were matched with 10 normal children in terms of mental age. Lexical features of descriptive and spontaneous speech was evaluated. Between the two groups, the total number of words, the number of closed and content words and their percentage were significant and lexical richness in spontaneous speech in normal group were significantly higher than those in mentally retarded group (P 02/0=). In addition, the mentally retarded individuals use the number of fewer words, very little lexical diversity also they use more verbs, and then nouns and Fewer closed words to information transmission.

Thisresearch aims at identifying the necessary social skills for students withmental retardation in work place. The present study is a descriptive-survey design. In this regard, 142teachers are selected as sample using convenient sampling method. In the nextstage, perspectives of teachers are surveyed using a researcher-developedquestionnaire. After preliminary study and determination of the psychometricproperties of the questionnaire, it is administered on the target samples. The data analysis identified the 25necessary social skills for students with mental retardation in work place. As a conclusion, social skillsinclude various levels prioritized by teachers for the success of persons withmental retardation in work place. Therefore, socialskills identified in this study can be used in vocational planning for mentallyretarded students

The present study investigates the effects of protection education on preventing sexual vulnerabilities in educable mentally retarded pubescentgirls. The research method is quasi-experimental, and the statistical population consists of all 64 training centers for mentally retarded girls in Tehran. The sampling units include four training centers selected randomly. After administration ofthe questionnaire called “Sexual Abuse Vulnerability Questionnaire of Children and Adolescents” prepared by Oliya’ee Zand which had acceptable validity and reliability (more than α=0.85), 40 students were identified as more sexually vulnerable. They formed the experimental group and were tested through intervention programsfor protection against sexual vulnerability. First a pre-test was administered after which intervention programs were implemented. Then, the post-test and follow Up-test were implemented to see the effect of protection education. Finally, using the statistical model of repeated measures, research questions were evaluated. The results show that protection education about sex is effective in improving abilities to maintain and respect physical privacy and developing preventive skills to avoid sexual vulnerability.Based on the results,it is recommended that other exceptionalpubescentboys and girls should be trained using various teaching instrument in training centers for protection against sexual vulnerabilities.

The present study aims at investigating the effects of cognitive and cognitive–meta cognitive education strategies on problem solving ability and adaptive behavior of mentally retarded students in junior professional schools. In this quasi-experimental research, 45 participants were selected by cluster sampling method and allocated in four experimental and two control groups. Research instruments include Towers of Hanoi puzzle and adaptive behavior scale. Cognitive and cognitive–meta cognitive strategies were respectively taught to experimental groups by lecture in 12 and 24 sessions. The data were analyzed by multivariate variance analysis and one –way analysis of variance. The results show that performance of students in problem-solving was better in cognitive–meta cognitive experimental group than the other groups. Also performance of problem – solving was better in cognitive experimental group than the control group. In addition, there was no difference in problem-solving performance and adaptive behavior of male and female participants who were taught the cognitive and cognitive–meta cognitive strategies. Also, experimental and control groups had no significant difference in adaptive behavior. Since, the results of this study were consistent and parallel withprevious researches, it can be concluded that cognitive and cognitive-meta cognitive education strategies have a positive effect on problem solving skills and adaptive behavior of mentally retarded students.

This case report is Significantly important, Due to the fact, that so far no documeted report has shown the presence of three female members of the same family having mental retardation. History and Mental status examination and physical examination was taken and the diagnosis was undertaken according to DSM IV-TR.
Incidence of Mental Retardation is estimated about 1-3% in normal Population at any time (schaefer 2010). This disorder is 1.5 times more common in men than women (Sadock, 2007). Mental Retardations occure secondary to genetics, developmental, acquired or combination of these causes (Sadock, 2007). But what is rare and unusual is the fact that three Sisters are affected by mental Retardation in one and the same Family.
There are some reports of new presentation and Etiology of Mental Retardation in medical literature (phadke, 2010). In this paper we will discuss and study different biological, social and cultural aspects of Mental Retardation and Present some mechanisms for primary prevention as well.
