Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the Effectiveness of Play Therapy based on Executive Functions on Attention Deficit and Impulsivity of Students with ADHD.

This was a quasi–experimental research with a pretest–posttest and a control group. The statistical population in this research was included all male students with ADHD, between 8-10 years old in Tabriz city in the academic year of 2022-2023. The statistical sample consisted of 30 students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who were identified by the introduction of the school counselor and evaluation with scale of CSI-4 and were selected using the convenience sampling method and they were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. Both groups were evaluated with software version of Stroop and Go-No go tests phases, pre-test and post-test. The experimental group participated group play therapy based on executive functions for 10 sessions of 60 minutes, one day a week . The data obtained from the research were analyzed by multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) . The significance level was considered 0/05 in all tests.

The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the attention deficit variable. However, this difference was not significant in the impulsivity variable. According to the results obtained in this research, play therapy based on executive functions and providing interventions focused on improving executive functions in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can improve these children’s attention deficit problems to a great extent.
